Acrobatic workshops for children

Workshops split into four sections. Beginning with a demonstration from the workshop leaders and moving on to some warm up exercises before proceeding through to basic acrobatics including floor work, cartwheels and basic acrobalance and pyramids.

For the final part, entitled Show and Do, the group sit in a circle and each person (or pair) steps into the middle to show what they have learnt. This is done quite informally with no individual pressure and the group give themselves a round of applause at the end.

Workshops can last from 1 hour to 90 minutes (an hour is often enough for younger children) and are suitable for up to 30 children.

They can also offer training in capoeira and trampolining.

A contemporary ‘terracotta army’ of thousands of clay figures, faces and fantasies, the ‘Daemon or Doppelganger’ project astonishes and delights. A mixture of participatory workshop and exhibition, the project creates a record of any event giving everyone a chance to get their hands dirty and surprise themselves with what they can do. Clay is so easy to work with and so tactile and expressive that everyone can enjoy making something to represent themselves. The experience is fun, expressive and good therapy. Figures can be fired at the end of the event to create a permanent record for the future.

The workshops require a covered area. The Clay workshop tent can be hired at an additional cost. This beautiful tent can also be used as a small covered venue.

Markmark

Workshops
Markmark Productions take their workshops to theatres, festivals, schools and community groups. The style of the workshops is drawn from the same influences as their performance work. All workshops are geared to the specific needs of individual groups, from professional to primary and all stages in between.

Commedia
This workshop concentrate on physical comedy and can be adapted for all ages and levels. The Commedia dell'Arte has been at the root of much of Markmark's work over the past 10 years. These workshops explore comedy through the characters of the Commedia and their situations. They also look at ‘lazzi’ the comic, routines of the Commedia, and how to create a new commedic language.

Markmark stage combat workshopsPhysical theatre
The aim of these workshops is to explore the poetic and physical nature of the performer and the worlds they inhabit. They look at le jeu ‘the pleasure and play in performance’; the neutral mask and the moving body.

Stage combat
Markmark’s performers have trained with the British Academy of Dramatic Combat and have worked as fight directors at many levels.
These workshops can explore unarmed combat, armed combat, found or discovered weapons and comic ‘ lazzi’ or slapstick routines. The Markmark approach embraces a safe, professional, practical and academic approach to the theory and practice of portrayed violence and an artistic approach to actor training.

Shakespeare
Shakespeare workshops for any of his plays, or a general workshop looking at the language or characters in his writing.

Markmark - Instant TheatreInstant Theatre
Instant Theatre involves children actively participating in a live performance with set, music and costume all provided by the company. Each workshop covers a period of history from Greek Myths and Legends through Romans on the Rampage, the Ten-minute Tudors to Scrooge’s Victorian Christmas. These are interactive story-telling workshops that offer lively, practical and fun ways for primary school students to develop their literacy and drama skills as well as learning historical detail.

Physical Jerkspublicity

Bboying (breakdance)

physical jerks bboying workshopsPhysical Jerks workshops give people an opportunity to experience the art of bboying (breakdance) first hand under the guidance of some of the UK’s top bboys. Workshops give participants an insight into the culture and history of the dance whilst allowing them to learn some of its essential foundations. Learning top rock, footwork and basic freezes participants will get a taster for the dance and a platform from which to take it further.

Workshops will involve a warm-up followed by the demonstration and step by step instruction for moves. This process will be taught by a team of leaders giving both individual and group instruction to ensure all abilities are catered for.

We aim to teach participants a short set (combination of moves) by the end of the session. Where possible we try to include a ‘throwdown’ session at the end of the workshop so people are able to have fun using what they’ve learnt. Workshops offer a fun and engaging opportunity for people of all abilities.

Amazingly bright paint pens inspire so much more than mere ‘colouring in’.

Under the guidance of cartoon artist Scott Walker, little and large folk of all abilities follow an irresistible urge to add to a collective artwork of marvellous proportions.

A large black and white cartoon graphic made up of fantastic creatures tantalizes the latent artist within so that soon, with paint pen in hand, children of all ages are adding their own inspired contributions

The pens are amazing in themselves allowing the daring and the timid to step up and boldly begin to explore a world of colour. They are water-based yet dry almost instantly as well as odourless and non-toxic.

The results are kaleidoscopic artwork.

A wonderful way for everyone to be part of your event and a stunning display.

A one day event, available in different themes. Artwork requires a suitable wall to house the canvas.

*Warning to parents: you will want to join in!

“…everyone agrees what a great success the wall (and you!) were and we all hope that we will be able to work with you on future projects.”

Alan Milne. Community Safety Manager, Network Rail
