People never forget an encounter with Oyster Opera - it’s not every day you are invited to waltz along to Verdi’s ‘Brindisi’, are pounced on by a man-mad mezzo, or are serenaded at close range by a beautiful soprano. Oyster Opera have been delighting audiences of all ages for several years now, and it’s certainly not just for opera buffs!
They come dressed in fabulously eccentric operatic costumes. They perform 2 x twenty minute shows of famous operatic songs and duets, including ‘Lakme Flower Duet’ (British Airways), ‘Sull Aria’ from Figaro (used in Shawshank Redemption), ‘O Mio Babbino Caro’, ‘Brindisi’, Carmen’s ‘Habanera’ and ‘Summertime’ from Porgy and Bess. They take their portable battery-operated system with backing tracks to the street and serenade passers by. The effect of the beautiful, engaging music is truly magical.
They come as a duo or more and can also come with the Oyster Opera’s Gondola to traverse the lawns, paths or pavements. The Gondola comes with your choice of male or female singers in fancy operatic costumes, any combination - soprano, mezzo-soprano, tenors or baritones.
Oyster Opera in Disguise!
Oyster Opera dress up as waiting staff, or chefs, or shoppers or security staff, or just to mingle into a venue dressed like everyone else and then, suddenly… surprise! They break into song and everyone is amazed.
Oyster Opera have sung at celebrity parties (Elton John, Matthew Parris, Aldo Zilli) and even for Royalty (HRH The King of Jordan and the Royal Family of the UAE in Dubai), as well as a busy corporate entertainment schedule. However, with a firm commitment to bringing opera to everyone, they are always delighted to visit a Fair, Festival, National Trust Property, school, shopping centre, high street... anywhere”
